I can maybe see more social, but over optimized - smacks of FUD.

I don't think so. This year I saw quite a few sites that had been removed from the index put back - not just in my main niche. My suspician at the time was that it was to give them another chance against the algo updates - this now seems even more likely, IMHumble(clueless)O.
